Letter to National MADD President
August 6, 2001

August 6, 2001

Ms. Millie Webb, President
MADD National President
511 E. John Carpenter Frwy., Suite 700
Irving, TX 75062

Dear Ms. Webb,

The reckless and irresponsible public behavior of your local MADD agent has drawn the attention of at least one local judge for its false impression. See the attached comment and reference to the law. We have called this continuing unfortunate demagoguery to your attention before, as it does not help the cause we all care about.

Your group certainly has a First Amendment right to speak, but some training in due process considerations would seem to be in order. Your local agent claims to "represent" certain victims, but her designation of any particular victim seems expedient in most cases and does not necessarily conform to that of the law. There is also a prohibition against practicing law without a license which she seems not to understand.

Very truly yours,

James N. Ramsey
District Attorney General
